Beam Me Up, Scotty!

Now, how about a break from blogging politics…

Ok, so it came out in October, but over vacation, I happened to catch Late Night with Conan O’Brien, show on which he had William Shatner pushing his new album, Has Been. Let me tell you, this album is worth every penny (although…I bought it in tax-free New Hampshire, so I can’t speak for the forty-five states that do have sales tax). There’s quite a few people in my advisory who would disagree…

The first two songs on the album, “Common People” and “It Hasn’t Happened Yet” are classic Shatner, with the UPs and DOWNs in SHATNERs speakING, if you know what I mean. However, the music put together by Ben Folds makes Shatner’s performance amazing.

One of the best songs on the album, the third in order, is You’ll Have Time, in which Shatner gives a warning: “live life like you’re gonna die/because you’re gonna/I hate to be the bearer of bad news/but you’re gonna die”. Shatner pays tribute to those fallen in recent times. In another track, Shatner pays tribute to his late wife, who died in a pool accident.

Shatner’s final song on the album, “Real” features country star Brad Paisley—this song is stunning. Shatner addresses those who believe he is just a “wash up”, and explains that he isn’t “any more enlightened than you”. Pick it up.

Political blogging resumes shortly. Sorry I haven’t blogged in several days…there is a LOT going on right now…
