I’m really excited that the Blue State Observer is becoming active again. You may have noticed the addition of several new bloggers … Allison of Tennessee, Christine of Missouri, Joshua of Virginia, and Rebekah of Florida. With the addition of several conservative bloggers, the question has once again been raised:
Why the “Blue State Observer?”
To give a brief history…
On June 14th, 2005, the BenjaminGoodman.com moved from mindsay to blogger. The ability to add “contributors” to a blog was an inviting possibility. The fact of the matter was, with several contributors, having my name as the title really made no sense.
So, the name was soon changed to The “Blue State Review at BenjaminGoodman.com.” After all, all of our original bloggers were from Maine, a Blue State since 1992. Unfortunately for us, there already was a “Blue State Review,” which quickly bought the proper domain name. With new contributors, and a growing audience, we signed on to “BlueStateObserver.com” in December of 2005.
So yes, we have more conservatives than liberals. But, based on our data, we have a pretty good sized audience. It just wouldn’t make sense to change our name now.
So, the proper answer, I suppose, is that the Blue State Observer was originally based out of a Blue State. Change is often good, but a title change just doesn’t work right now.
Who knows what the future may hold.
Until then, welcome new bloggers.
